I've been seriously neglecting this account lately. Mostly because I never have thoughts worth more than 140 characters, so it seems natural to just Twit them instead of post here. But I just whittled my FL down in hopes of making this a little more efficient. I would have just added everyone's RSS feeds to my reader, but that doesn't really work with LJ permissions that well.

Nothing personal if I deleted you, and if it bugs you, just comment and I'll add you back. Just wanted to limit it to people I see or interact with semiregularly.

That said, I'm glad I didn't spring for a permanent account last time they were offered, like I was seriously considering.

Man, I wish the phone would stop ringing.

I booked my ticket to Pittsburgh for mid-September this morning. Haven't booked the flight back yet, because it's a fucking pain in the ass to get to and from Pittsburgh and I had shit to do this morning.

I'm already flying through NYC, which I really didn't want to do, since it forces me to backtrack about 300 miles from NYC. But it's an overnight JetBlue flight, so hopefully I can sleep through most of it. I'm not expecting such a pleasant experience of the way back.

BTW, anyone know anything about Pittsburgh? Does it even actually exist? [info]thesquirrelfish says she lived there for a while, but she is prone to flights of fancy, and may have been in the woods eating coffee ground and hallucinated the whole thing.

Lots of people were pretty furious about the Freddy Sanchez-Tim Alderson trade. I was, and still am not.

1- There is no way in hell to know if a double-A pitcher will ever see the Bigs. Yes, Alderson might be our next Joe Nathan. He might also be the next Todd Linden. I don't know, Sabean doesn't know, and none of the people claiming that we should have kept him at all costs know.

2- People thought we should have gotten a bigger bat, instead of a .300 hitter. Yes, because we've done so well this decade with one big bat in the middle of an anemic lineup, and we should strive to repeat those efforts.

2.5- The Giants are a weak team with awesome pitching. And unless Sabean were to magically acquire Albert Pujols, 1997-era Ken Griffey, and 1989-era Rickey Henderson, we were going to remain a weak team with awesome pitching. Considering the dearth of available power before the deadline, it's better to accept & embrace the team we're destined to be this year, instead banking on a player with mediocre-but-good-enough-for-cleanup numbers. We need to play National League ball. Hell, behind Tim Lincecum, we beat the reigning World Champions on two sacrifice flies. And while that's not good for the health of our fingernails, it's going to be the way we win this year.

I ended up going to the outlet store after work yesterday, and I ended up with The Potrero. The Ellwood was okay, but it ended up beign super-thin, like a windbreaker. They had the Davis (my first choice yesterday) but I didn't like it as much in person. The Potrero caught my eye right before I left work, and I ended up liking it a lot in the store before I even knew it was the Potrero. It's shinier in person, not like suede.

I cannot decide between the Davis and the Ellwood.

I like the general style of the Davis better, but I think it's a bit short. I like my jackets to be way oversized (one size up + long). The Ellwood is more a length I like but the trim seems a bit "western" for me. I also like the Davis' beat-up look more, but if I do it right, either one will be properly beat up given some time.

Golden Bear* has an outlet on Potrero Hill, so I'm gonna leave early and head there. Plus, if Yelp is to be trusted, the stuff may be even cheaper there.

*-and let me tell you how fun it is to Google "bear" and "leather" and "San Francisco" in the same query.
